Alte Eisfabrik, Berlin

Built close to the water

The historic Berlin ice factory is located directly on the River Spree. Ice blocks were produced here from the end of the 19th century until the 1990s. While the surrounding area has been redeveloped, the old ice
factory with its striking chimney has been preserved and revitalised.

TTC façade channels were installed for the drainage and linear grating made of Corten steel were chosen to cover them to match the old brick building. The gratings, which are welded onto combs without rattling, have
a constant bar spacing of 5 mm, which is also maintained towards the edge despite the different internal widths of the gratings.
