Med Campus Uni, Linz
Airy learning space
The new medical faculty in Linz is quite different from what was originally intended. Fortunately, because the result is a piazza around which the four buildings are clustered. As different as they are in terms of volume, colour and materials, they all refer to each other, and each one stands for a function: lecture halls, laboratories, administration and the library.
The Faculty of Medicine library is mainly run as an e-library and has a high quality of stay thanks to its bright, open rooms. However, so much open space also requires thermal and air-hygienic comfort so that the students remain concentrated and efficient.
Ideal conditions for GraviVent – the silent gravity cooling system from TTC Technology. Silent operation without ventilation and without draughts ensures a pleasant climate for reading and studying through natural convection – in summer and winter. The façade, consisting mainly of a lot of glass and larch wood slats for shading, prevented the drop shafts from being attached to the walls, so another solution was needed. This was found in that the drop shafts simultaneously function as walls of the sanitary cores, which are arranged as cubes in the room and covered with textile fabric.
