New commercial building on Rudolfplatz – architecture with attitude
On Cologne’s Rudolfplatz, right next to the historic Hahnentorburg, stands a remarkable new building by architect Max Dudler. The new commercial building impresses as a well thought-out architectural product that harmoniously combines history, cityscape and modern use.
The calm, staggered cubature blends sensitively into the surroundings and elegantly divides the large volume into three units. Materials such as washed water-struck brick and cast stone are reminiscent of the neighbouring Torburg and lend the building a timeless quality. The delicately structured façade and the classic tripartite division of the building emphasise the interplay between load-bearing and load-bearing – an architectural principle that is interpreted in a modern way here.
The new building is more than just an office and commercial building: it is an identity-creating product for one of Cologne’s most central locations – functional, high-quality and precisely designed.
