Clara & Robert: Light set in scene
In Düsseldorf’s Derendorf district, ‘Clara & Robert’ is an ensemble that combines historical substance with modern architectural language. A new building with a shimmering metallic façade rises up out of the clinker brick building of a former barracks. Narrow, irregularly placed windows are reminiscent of piano keys – a subtle homage to Clara and Robert Schumann, whose names the project bears.
The office of sop | architekten designed the ensemble, which covers around 19,000 m² and consists of two interlocking buildings and a complementary new building. A central design element is the consistent lighting concept. The interior and exterior lighting was realised entirely by ADO Lights – a brand of TTC Timmler.
The luminaires blend seamlessly into the architectural structure and support the clarity of the design. Both outdoors and indoors, the lighting technology ensures precise accentuation of materials, surfaces and room edges. The interplay of light and architecture gives the building a calm, balanced effect – functional and atmospheric at the same time.
