Villeroy & Boch Welt Museum + Outlet, Mettlach
Tradition 2.0
The Villeroy & Boch Welt [Villeroy & Boch World] proves that tradition does not necessarily have to come across as old-fashioned. Over the past 275 years, the company has helped shape the Saarland town of Mettlach. As part of the Mettlach 2.0 urban development project, Villeroy & Boch has transformed its large company estate – including the Old Abbey and the adjoining park – into a destination featuring museum and an outlet, from which the town also benefits.
A former production hall of the Faïencerie was revitalised to house the new outlet. The charm of the old industrial architecture has been preserved and complemented with modern glass and metal elements.
At the rear of the hall, with its large window areas, TTC façade drainage channels were installed along the entire length of the building. The channels are covered with TTC stainless steel linear gratings of types KSF and KSM, which are finished in an iridescent black burnished finish to match the window frames and fitted with cutouts
for the downpipes. The profiles of the grates have also been technically adapted so they can be used likewise as guide rails for the large metal sliding shutters.
